Summer is the season of abundance—and exhaustion. The sun rises early, the days are long, and the list of chores never seems to end. On the homestead, summer means one thing: everything is alive, and everything needs attention. The weeds, the crops, the animals, the projects—all growing, all demanding time and care.

​In marriage, faith, and personal growth, we all face our own summers. These are the seasons when we’re busy, stretched thin, and sometimes weary. The work of tending, maintaining, and protecting what’s been planted can feel endless. Yet summer, for all its heat, is when the most growth happens. It’s where faith turns into fruit.

Stewardship is sacred. It’s the daily discipline of caring for what God has entrusted to us—relationships, responsibilities, callings, and even our own hearts. The temptation of summer is to get caught up in busyness and forget gratitude. We confuse activity with progress and exhaustion with faithfulness.

But true stewardship isn’t about how much you do; it’s about how present you are. The summer sun will expose what’s rooted deeply and what isn’t. Plants with shallow roots dry up. The same happens when we neglect prayer, rest, or gratitude. We can only give consistent care when we stay connected to the Source.

​On the homestead, if you don’t water every day, the plants wilt. If you skip pulling weeds, they overrun the garden. If you forget gratitude, the joy fades from the work. Stewardship means showing up—not perfectly, but faithfully.

The summer sun doesn’t just grow fruit—it also refines it. Heat is how sweetness develops. The same is true for faith. Trials, pressure, and long days test our endurance, but they also strengthen our character. The fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience—doesn’t ripen in comfort. It ripens in consistency.

​When life feels relentless, remember: the heat that drains you is the same heat that matures you. You’re being refined, not ruined. God’s not punishing you—He’s preparing you for harvest.

This season, my summer work looks different than before. It’s not tending a garden or building fences—it’s tending my faith. It’s learning how to be faithful when no one’s watching. To steward time, heart, and purpose with the same diligence I once gave to the soil.

​Some days it feels like too much. But then I remember: the harvest depends on small, consistent effort. Showing up in prayer. Staying humble. Giving thanks for what’s growing, even if it’s not ready to harvest yet.

Homesteaders know that summer’s work determines fall’s harvest. You can’t expect fruit if you didn’t water the roots. You can’t expect peace if you didn’t guard your heart. Every act of faithfulness now—every small, steady step—is an investment in what’s coming.

​So keep tending what matters most. Water it with gratitude. Protect it from distraction. And trust that God will bring the increase in His time.
