Introduction:

Hello and welcome to the Everyday Stories on Our Homestead podcast!
I'm Scott Westhoff, married to the most wonderful Tamera in the whole wide world.
We have 8 kids, and we're striving for a better future for everyone around us in our community.

Tech Frustrations with the Website:

I've been trying to set up our website, and it's been so frustrating.
Yesterday, I couldn't get my trackpad on my computer to work—I was clicking and nothing was happening.
I decided to just go to bed. This morning, I restarted it, and it's working again—Yay!

Homesteading Challenges and Persistence:

Sometimes in homesteading, we run into problems—big problems.
We're taking care of animals and crops, and things happen.
We have to persevere and be persistent—I'd say that's my number one quality; I don't give up.

​Starting the Winter Garden:

Currently, I'm working on getting my winter garden started.
My wonderful neighbor tilled up a couple of rows near the apple trees.
I want to get some lettuce and other things growing—it's going to be awesome!

Crazy Kansas Weather:

Kansas can have some really crazy weather—yesterday it was over 100 degrees.
I was glad to be indoors most of the day, but I need to get things planted so we have food throughout the winter.
The Beauty of Canning and Seasonal Eating

Canning allows us to put stuff away and use it throughout the winter.
I've heard our bodies aren't made to handle the same food all year long like we're used to in the grocery store.
We're supposed to eat seasonal foods and take care of our bodies in a holistic and natural way.

Goals and Email Challenges:

Today, I'm working on getting my email set up correctly so I can send you all an email.
I've got a broadcast email going out to show you the stickers we've created.
My wife and I think they look good, but I want to know what you think so we can tweak them and get them out to you.

Persistence in the Face of Challenges:

It's been frustrating getting the settings right—I can grow things really well, but this has been a challenge.
But I'm persistent—I'm going to keep going and get it done.
That's what we do as homesteaders.

Conclusion:

Had to move the cat out of the way—always something!
