Introduction:

Hello and welcome to the Everyday Stories on Our Homestead podcast!
I'm Scott Westhoff, married to the most wonderful Tamera in the whole wide world.
We have 8 kids, and we're all striving for a better future for everyone around us in our community.
Purpose of the Podcast:

This is where I chronicle what happens on our homestead day by day.
We're on a journey from less than an acre to 50 acres and beyond.

Tech Frustrations with the Website:

I've been trying to set up our website, and it's been so frustrating.
Yesterday, my computer's trackpad wasn't working—I was clicking, and nothing was happening.
I finally decided to just go to bed and tackle it in the morning.

Perseverance Pays Off:

This morning, I restarted the computer, and it's working again—yay!
Sometimes in homesteading, we run into problems, big problems even, but we have to persevere and be persistent.
I'd say persistence is my number one quality—I don't give up.
Starting the Winter Garden:

Currently, I'm working on getting my winter garden started.
My wonderful neighbor tilled up a couple of rows near the apple trees.
I'm planning to plant lettuce and other things—it's going to be awesome!

Dealing with Crazy Weather:

Kansas can have some really crazy weather; yesterday it was over 100 degrees—really hot!
But I need to get things planted so we can have food throughout the winter.
The Importance of Seasonal Eating:

The beauty of canning is that we can preserve food and use it during the colder months.
I've heard our bodies aren't made to handle the same food all year long like we get from the grocery store.
We're supposed to eat seasonal foods and take care of our bodies in a holistic, natural way.

Goals and Tech Challenges:

Today, I've got goals—I need to get my email set up correctly so I can send out an email to you all.
I'm sending a broadcast email to show you the stickers we've created.
My wife and I think they look good, but I want to know what you think so we can tweak them and get them out to you.

Persistence in the Face of Frustration:

It's been frustrating getting the settings right.
I can grow things really well, but this tech stuff has been a challenge for me.
But I'm persistent—I'm going to keep going and get it done because that's what we do as homesteaders.

Closing Thoughts:

Even when the cat tries to interrupt (had to move it off the table!), we keep pushing forward.
