If You Missed The Episode, Watch It Now.
Are you putting in the work but not seeing results? You’re not alone. Many content creators struggle to monetize their efforts effectively, often focusing too much on conversions and not enough on the message itself.
In this article, we’ll discuss how to structure your content in a way that attracts the right audience, engages them with valuable insights, and ultimately helps you get paid for your work. We’ll also introduce the 4 C’s of Content—a framework that will help you stay focused and ensure your content serves both you and your audience.
But first, let’s tackle a question I recently saw in a Facebook group: "How much should I charge for creating a video?" My answer was simple: If you’re charging a one-time fee, you’re doing it wrong. Instead, focus on structuring long-term sponsorships that pay you over time as your video continues to get views.
This same principle applies to content creation in general—don’t just create for the sake of creating. Create content that aligns with your audience’s needs and keeps them engaged over the long term.
The 4 C’s of Content
Before diving into how to discover the best topics for your audience, you need a framework to guide your content strategy. The 4 C’s of Content help you create content that resonates, builds trust, and leads to long-term success:
1. Credibility – Your audience needs to trust that you know what you’re talking about. Share your experiences, results, and insights to position yourself as an authority in your niche. If you don’t have personal experience with a topic, bring in experts or reference reliable sources.
2. Character – People follow people, not just information. Your personality, values, and unique perspective make you stand out. Share your story, be authentic, and let your audience connect with the real you.
3. Connection – Content should feel like a conversation, not a lecture. Engage with your audience, respond to comments, ask questions, and create content that fosters community and interaction.
4. Conversion – While content should provide value, it should also lead to a sustainable business model. Whether it’s through sponsorships, products, services, or memberships, your content should guide your audience toward a way to support your work while getting value in return.
By focusing on these four areas, you’ll create content that builds trust, engages your audience, and turns followers into supporters.
The 5 topics you choose to focus on need to align with these four C's and answer questions your audience is already asking.
Finding the Right Topics: What Does Your Audience Care About?
You might have a thousand ideas, but only a handful of them will truly resonate with your audience. The key is to focus on 5 core topics that matter to both you and the people you want to serve.
Here’s how to find those topics:
1. Narrow Down Your Ideal Audience
The biggest mistake content creators make is trying to talk to everyone. Instead, define your ideal customer. Who are they? What do they care about? What struggles do they face?
For example, if you’re a homestead content creator, your audience might be:
New homesteaders looking for guidance on starting their journey
Experienced homesteaders looking for ways to make their homestead profitable
Urban dwellers who dream of a more self-sufficient lifestyle but don’t know where to start
Once you identify the people you want to serve, you can tailor your content specifically to their needs.
2. Find Where Your Audience Congregates Online
To know what your audience wants, you first have to find them. Where do they hang out? Some places to look include:
Facebook Groups related to your niche
Reddit threads where people discuss relevant topics
YouTube comment sections of popular videos in your industry
Twitter (X) and Instagram discussions on niche-related hashtags
Forums and online communities dedicated to your topic
By joining these conversations, you can observe what your audience is talking about and what questions they’re asking.
3. Identify the Questions Your Audience Is Asking
Your best content ideas will come directly from the people you want to serve. To find out what questions they have:
Look at Google’s "People Also Ask" section for common search queries.
Use Quora and Reddit to see what problems people are trying to solve.
Analyze the FAQs in industry-specific Facebook groups.
Read through the comments on your own content and see what people ask the most.
Once you start gathering these questions, your job as a content creator is simple: Answer them!
Conclusion: Create Content That Works for You
If you want to build a profitable content business, you need to:
✔️ Identify and focus on your ideal audience
✔️ Find out where they gather online
✔️ Create content that answers their biggest questions
By structuring your content around the 4 C’s (Credibility, Character, Connection, Conversion) and focusing on five key topics, you can create content that engages, serves, and sustains your business.
