For me, building strong leadership starts with creating what I call a personal "board of directors" or mastermind group. These are people—some living, some historical—who inspire me with their traits and values. I shared my list, which includes my faith, mentors like Napoleon Hill, and my dad, who taught me about patience and love. The idea is to study these people, learn from their examples, and even imagine having "meetings" with them to help guide my decisions and actions. It’s been a game-changer for me, helping me clarify my purpose and lead my homestead with more confidence.

One way I’ve grown as a leader is by creating my own personal "board of directors" or mastermind group.

What Is a "Board of Directors"?

It’s a group of people—real or imagined—whose traits you admire and want to embody.
You can study their lives, learn from their values, and even have “meetings” with them in your mind to help you make decisions.

My Personal "Board of Directors"

Jesus Christ: My number one guide for embodying love, patience, and faith.
Napoleon Hill: Taught me to give more than I receive and focus on growth.
Russell Brunson: A great example of pursuing passion and helping others despite not having to.
Dale Carnegie: A master of communication and teaching.
Elsie Lincoln Benedict: A pioneer in public speaking and advocacy.
My Dad: He showed me patience, love, and prioritizing what matters most.
Thomas Edison: The ultimate example of perseverance and creativity.
P.T. Barnum: A genius entrepreneur who knew his audience and delivered for them.
Gordon B. Hinckley: A constant source of positivity and faith.
Richard G. Scott: Provided me direct answers when I needed them most.
Captain Moroni: A historic figure who inspired courage and put first things first.
Russell M. Nelson: A living example of following God’s will above all else.

Why This Matters

My "board of directors" has helped me grow as a leader and stay focused on my goals.
It’s a practical tool for aligning your values with your decisions.

How You Can Do It Too

Make your own list of people who inspire you—whether they’re living or from history.
Study their lives, write down what qualities you admire, and imagine “meeting” with them regularly to learn from their examples.

Clarifying Your Purpose

It gave me a clear sense of purpose and helped me focus on my passion.
