Today, we’re discussing a serious and important topic that affects many people around the world, including here in the U.S.

Victor's Story:

I share the story of my friend Victor, who came to the U.S. to work and support his family.
He paid $15,000 to cross the border, which he now has to repay, while also covering his living expenses and sending money back home.

Victor struggles with depression and loneliness, missing his family and trying to survive in a new country.

The Harsh Reality of Immigration:

Many immigrants work for less than minimum wage, but even if they earned the Kansas minimum wage of $7.25 an hour, it would take 2,069 hours, or about a year of full-time work, just to pay off the debt of crossing the border.
This doesn’t account for the cost of living, food, housing, or supporting their families back home.
Immigrants face incredible challenges every day, often risking their lives just for a chance at a better future.

Reflections on Helping People Where They Are:

I believe it’s better to help people improve their lives in their home countries, where the cost of living is lower, and they can stay with their families.
Supporting people in their communities helps them avoid the dangers of crossing borders and risking their lives.

Personal Connection and Thoughts:

I work with Spanish-speaking friends and feel deeply for those trying to create better lives for their families.
It’s heartbreaking to see people leave their homes, risking everything for a chance to survive in the U.S.
I want to encourage people to consider how they can help others live better lives where they are.
